Air Mshl Lalji K Verma AVSM (Retd) is a graduate from Patna Medical College. Joined the Armed Forces in 1963. He held many assignments at different Stations and Headquarters. Has been an active Mountaineer and Paratrooper and has Commanded Paratroopers Units

A graduate of Defence Services Staff College, he is Presently a Consultant, Environmental Protection & Waste Management. He was awarded Ati Vishisht Sewa Medal by the President of India; and has also been appointed Honorary Surgeon to the President of India on 16 March 2001.

The Air Marshal is committed to preservation and arrest of degradation of environment. He has done pioneering work in the country in the field of Hospital Waste Management. For the first time, a "multi-option approach" for proper hospital waste management has been conceived by him and successfully applied at Air Force Hospital Bangalore as a WHO Pilot Project which was further augmented by equipment supplied by the Ministry of Defence. The Air Marshal has again for the first time conceived and devised a line diagram with interventions for movement of the waste from point of generation to the point of disposal. Considering his pioneer work in the Hospital Waste Management the Ministry of Environment and Forest has nominated him on the National Steering Committee of Hospital Waste Management.

He is prolific writer in English and Hindi and has five works published to his credit, latest being "Nimbus", an anthology of English poems. He is recipient of 'Lt Gen KS Master Oration' Award (Service oriented) and 'Premchand Smriti Puraskar' (on Hindi Literature).

He has also developed a protocol of Hospital Waste Management for the whole Armed Forces which has been converted to Joint Services Guide. Currently he is actively engaged in conceptualising and planning projects concerned with infection control in the hospitals. He has also initiated research projects on solid waste management and its impact on bird menace.

Has been nominated on the National Steering Committee ( Ministry of Environment & Forests) of Management of Biochemical Wastes.
